Vocational Teachers Training for Job Role of Floriculturist (Open Cultivation) in Agriculture Sector
A training programme for the vocational teachers teaching the vocational subject of Floriculturist (Open Cultivation) in Agriculture Sector from Grades 9 to 12 was organised from 16th to 20th January 2023 at the PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), Bhopal. Twenty-eight vocational teachers from Himachal Pradesh state were trained on the topics related to vocational pedagogy and the vocational subject of Floriculturist (Open Cultivation). The topics included the role and responsibility of vocational teachers, introduction to floriculture, nursery management, field preparation and intercultural operations, integrated nutrients management, integrated weed management, integrated pest management, identification and use of modern tools and equipment, growing of annual and perennial plants, advances in cultivation of commercial flower crops, maintaining health and safety at the workplace, green skills, post-harvest management and value addition. The participants visited the Indian Institute of Soil Science (IISS), Bhopal and Central Institute of Agriculture Engineering (CIAE), Bhopal for an exposure to the latest developments in the field of soil science and floriculture practices. A visit to a Polyhouse was also organised for providing learning experience on the various practices adopted in cultivation of flowers under controlled conditions. The programme was coordinated by Dr R.K. Pathak, Professor, Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, PSSCIVE, Bhopal.
