Orientation Programme for Key Functionaries on NEP 2020 to Strengthen Vocational Education and Training in Schools
With a focus on strengthening vocational education in schools of Kerala and Mizoram, a three-day orientation programme on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for strengthening Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools was organised by the PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), Bhopal from 4th to 6th January, 2023. Dr. Vinay Swarup Mehrotra, Coordinator of the Programme and Head of Curriculum Development and Evaluation Centre, PSSCIVE emphasized that on-the-job training and academia-industry linkages are one of the most important components of VET. He opined that there is a need for training students on 21st-century skills for enhancing their employability. In his inaugural address, Dr Deepak Paliwal, Joint Director, PSSCIVE underscored the importance of inculcating future skills through vocational education. The Officials from the Department of School Education and Principals of Schools from Kerala and Mizoram were orientated in the workshop mode. The technical sessions included slide presentations, group discussion, chart preparation, slide presentations and interactive exercises on the recommendations of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on vocational education, best practices of vocational education adopted by schools, vocational pedagogy, pre-vocational education from Grades 6 to 8, use of ICT tools in vocational education, competency-based assessment and evaluation, National Credit Framework (NcrF), and National Skill Qualifications Framework (NSQF). The programme ended with the presentation of a certificate of participation to the participants.
